New Earswick All Blacks defeated at Westgate Wolves

11:02am Tuesday 21st February 2012

FOURTH-PLACED New Earswick All Blacks ARLC suffered their seventh defeat of the Pennine League championship season as they went down 22-6 at Westgate Wolves.

The White Rose Avenue side are now ten points shy of leaders Halifax Irish having played more games than all the teams around them.

Westgate took the lead after ten minutes with a converted try, but the All Blacks levelled with winger Louis Pool crossing in the corner and scrum-half Liam Gargan converting.

However, Westgate led 10-6 at the break after an unconverted try and they added another touchdown early in the second half.

The All Blacks were unable to break the defensive line and Westgate sealed their victory with a converted try eight minutes from time.

The visitors’s man of the match was loose forward Chris Spain. Centre Steve Perks and second-rower Jack Sinclair also excelled.

Meanwhile, All Blacks ‘A’ turned in their season’s best display to record a thumping 54-12 victory over Newsome Panthers in division four.

Winger Dean Smith finished off a sharp passing move for an unconverted try in the corner and Ben Jones then jinked his way through to score.

Player-coach Alan Pallister forced his way across with a trademark try from acting half, although Max Bracken failed with the conversion.

Panthers pulled the deficit back with two converted tries, but Jack Law shook off a host of defenders on a run from the half-way line for the first of his hat-trick of tries.

Bracken added the extras and Chris Elcock then claimed a try for a 22-12 first-half lead.

Second-half tries came from Dean Leighton, Andy Jackson, Jack Law (2), prop Carl Barrow and substitute Carl Pallister, while Bracken added three conversions.

Pallister was pleased with the performance and urged his players to repeat that commitment next week.

Holders Selby Warriors moved into the semi-finals of the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy with a 20-4 victory at Sharlston Rovers ‘A’.

Selby Warriors ‘A’ saw their division seven trip to Underbank Rangers ‘A’ postponed.
