High winds cause chimney collapse in Scarborough
1:20pm Sunday 29th January 2012
HIGH winds in Scarborough have caused parts of a chimney to collapse, damaging at least one parked car.
North Yorkshire Fire Service were called to a property in Commercial Street, in the Prospect Road area of the town, after reports of falling brickwork.
A Fire Service spokeswoman said nobody had been hurt in the incident, and crews used ladders to get to the chimney and help maintain the structure until a structural engineer arrived.
Police have cordoned off an area of the footpath to help prevent injury until the 20mph winds subside.
